Nakchu horse race festival of Tibet 2008

Aug. 4th - Day01: Fly to Lhasa -------L -------- Local 3* Hotel

Taking morning flight into Tibet, upon your arrival, local guide will meet you and transfer you to Lhasa. On the way, you can enjoy the heart -- beating highland view along the Yalu Zangbu river (the longest river in Tibet, the lower reach in India is called Brham Putra river); in the afternoon, you are free .

Aug. 5th - Day02: Lhasa sightseeing -----B/L ----Local 3* Hotel

In the morning, visit the grand -- looking Potala Palace, which was built in the 7th century for the King. In the afternoon, visit Jokhang temple and Tibet Museum. Then stroll in the famous local bazaar - Parkhor street.

Aug. 6th - Day03: Lhasa sightseeing ------- B/L ------- Local 3* hotel

Visit Tsepung monastery which is the biggest monastery in Tibet. Then visit Sera monastery and Norbulingka which can give you deep impression of Tibet arts and civilization.

Aug. 7th - Day04: Lhasa to Gyangtse to Shigatse ----B/L -------------3* Shigatse Hotel

Driving past the Gangbala pass(4800m), view the Yangdrok lake, then down by the old road to Gyangtse, visit the Karuola glacier, the Perkhor monastery in Gyangtse town. Arrive at Shigatse in the late afternoon.

Aug. 8th - Day05: Shigatse to Lhasa ----------B/L -------------------3* Xiongba-Lha Hotel

Visit Tashilunpo monastery, which is the biggest monastery in rear Tibet, and the permanent residence for Panchan Lhama. Inside are some stupas for the passed Panchan lhamas, and a 30 - metre high copper cast Future Buddha, see the local bazaar market. Then drive back to Lhasa through the valley of Yalu Zangbu river. When arrive in Lhasa, visit Tibetan Carpet Factory.

Aug. 9th - Day06: Lhasa to Nakchu -------B/L -------- 3* Shigatse Hotel

Drive about 350 kilometers northward to Nakchu, the biggest city in Tibet grassland area and in northern Tibet; before, Nakchu is called "Heishui", literally meaning "Balck water"

Aug. 10th - Day07: Nakchu horse race festival  opens ------B/L ----3* Xiongba-Lha Hotel

Join in Nakchu horse race festival

Aug. 11th - Day08: Nakchu horse race festival ----B/L ----- Local 3* Hotel

Still in the festival site

Aug. 12th - Day09: Nakchu --- Lhasa --------- B/L -------- Local 3* Hotel

Drive back to Lhasa

Aug. 13th - Day10: leaving Lhasa in afternoon for your next destination ----- B only

In the morning, you are free; after lunch time (around 12:30), the guide and the driver will meet you at your hotel and then send you to Lhasa Gongga airport to your next destination

----- Attention: train leaves Lhasa railway station in the morning (before 10:30); this means if you want to leave Tibet by train, you must depart in the morning or the next morning; it requires around 45 hours to 52 hours to get to your destination (it is subject to where you will go)
